IPv6 Simplified

Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) has been around for a while now, but has started to make its presence felt in Internet space only recently.
Question is What does term IPv6 mean? and why it is the next big thing in the Internet?

  • IPv6 is the latest version of IP, it is the successor IPv4 and It has many more times address space than IPv4
  • IPv4 can hold only 4.3 billion addresses which are not enough for rapidly growing world population but IPv6 can hold up to 340 undecellion addresses because it uses 128-bit address.
  • Google's take on the transition from IPv4 to IPv6
  • IPv6 can create over 18 trillion addresses and with this number, currently every human being on earth can be assigned around 3000 dedicated IP's

Accorging to me IPv6 is essential for the Growth of internet, although transition has started but it will take time to completely replace IPv4 by IPv6
