Intel hopes to speed up mobile Atom chip development

Intel has a real presence in the smartphone world, but its tendency toward just one or two mobile chip releases per year makes it a slowpoke next to its ARM-based rivals. New CEO Brian Krzanich clearly isn't happy with this gap -- he tells Reuters that mobile Atom development could speed up under his watch. Although the executive is short on specifics, he notes that Intel is "evaluating" the schedule for future chips with hopes of improving their timing where possible. The proof will be in the pudding, of course -- the company needs to give opponents like Qualcomm a real run for their money. Just don't expect a similarly breakneck pace with Intel's TV service plans. Krzanich says Intel is being "cautious" about entering an industry that depends more on content than pure technology.

India topples Japan to become world’s third largest smartphone market

India has surpassed Japan in terms of smartphone volumes and is now the third largest smartphone market worldwide during Q1, 2013, according to a Strategy Analytics report. This is mainly contributed by the improved distribution network of players like Samsung, Micromax and Apple, which are reported to be the key volume drivers in the Indian smartphone market.

According to the report, the Indian smartphone market is growing with 163 percent year on year volume expansion, which is about four times faster than the global average at 39 percent year on year volume growth. While markets like China records 86 percent year-on-year volume growth, Japan has 24 percent year-on-year volume growth and the US has 19 percent year-on-year growth average.

Another interesting finding of the Strategy Analytics report is that Micromax has moved up to second spot in key brands driving this growth rate of the smartphone market. Micromax stands second only to Samsung, and is followed by Apple. Reportedly, other domestic players like Karbonn and Spice are also growing rapidly between 200 percent and 500 percent on an annual basis. While India is going to be in the limelight amongst the global vendors, the report clearly indicates that this growth in the Indian smartphone market will also have a major contribution by the domestic players. Interestingly, according to the report, Nokia is no longer among the top three smartphone vendors in the country, which is a little shocking.

Samsung rolls out first curved, super-thin OLED television for $13,000

Organic light-emitting diode technology has long been touted as the future of consumer electronics displays, offering crisper picture resolution, a faster response time and high contrast images. It also allows for curved televisions, which manufacturers say offer a more immersive TV experience.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd slapped a $13,000 price tag on its first curved, super-thin OLED television to go on sale, the same price as rival LG Electronics Inc and one that underscores the high costs of the technology.
Samsung is hoping that its success with OLED screens in smartphones such as its Galaxy S4 will also pay off in TVs, but consumers interested its 55-inch screen television must be willing to pay some five times more than popular flat-screen equivalents.

Students who trade-in their old smartphones while upgrading to an iPhone will get 7,777 rupees (US$144). Non-students will be paid 7,000 rupees (US$130).
Indian Customers who purchase a new iPhone using their American Express credit card will receive a ten percent cashback.

The smartphone manufacturer will refund a maximum of 6,000 rupees (US$111) to American Express customers who purchase an iPhone 4, 4S or 5 before June 10, according to a full-page advertisement published in a news daily.

An AmEx credit card issued by an Indian bank must be used to purchase the handset on the recently introduced installment plans, available via distributors Redington and Ingram Micro.
For example, a customer will receive 4,550 rupees (US$70) when they purchase an iPhone 5 (16 GB) on six monthly instalments of 2,374 rupees (US$43), plus a 9,990 rupees (US$181.50) downpayment.

It is estimated there were 2.5 million iPhones in India at the end of last year. The research firm recently predicted that Apple would enjoy significant growth in 2013 because of the recently launched installment plans.

PS4 vs Xbox One: which is better?

In Depth Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One do battle with eight-core AMD technology

Now that both the Xbox One and PS4 have had their respective launch events and subsequent press conferences at E3, we're in a position to compare what they offer.
The two consoles certainly look a lot like each other. Both have angular shapes, black colouring and a combination of matte and gloss finishing.
We're not particularly sold on either design, but they do both hold more than a passing resemblance to the Sony PS2 - the best selling console of all time.
Let's take a look at the specs, features, services and peripherals of both consoles...

Always online

The Xbox One requires gamers to maintain a constant internet connection. If your Xbox One is disconnected for longer than 24 hours, your games will cease to function. You'll still be able to watch TV, use Blu-rays and surf the web, but your games will be off limit. This has made a lot of gamers very mad, so it's surely a huge advantage for Sony that the PS4 has no such limitations.
Unless you're playing online, streaming games or downloading, your PS4 does not need to be connected to the internet. Games will always work regardless.

Pre-owned titles

Another huge win for Sony comes in the realm of used games. Where Microsoft is allowing publishers the right to set their own rules with regards to allowing them to be re-sold, Sony is doing no such thing.
Pre-owned games will work on the PS4 just as they do with the PS3 and the PS2. You can lend a game to a friend simply by handing them the disc. However, with Xbox One, you can only lend a game to a person you've had in your Xbox live friends list for longer than 30 days, and you can only do it once. This could lead to reduced availability and/or increased prices for pre-owned titles, though it's hard to predict how it will all shake down when the consoles and games finally go on sale.

"We designed the Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers," said Microsoft on the Xbox site. "Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games."

The price

Both consoles will go on sale later this year - the Xbox One certainly in November, with no exact date confirmed for the PS4. We do have confirmed prices though, and again the Sony PS4 looks to be a more attractive prospect.
The PS4 will cost $399 in the US, £349 in the UK, €399 in Europe and $549 in Australia.
The Xbox One, meanwhile, will cost more - $499 in the US, £429 in the UK and $599 in Australia.
Price was always going to be a key battleground, and in these frugal times it will be interesting to see what percentage of gamers are willing to fork out the extra cash for the Xbox. You certainly wouldn't expect many to shift in Japan.

As much as the two warring systems are different, the heart of the Xbox One and the PS4 remain very similar.
That's because they're both running x86 octa-core CPUs, and these eight-core processors are built by the same chipmaker, AMD.
The use of AMD in the Xbox One and PS4 is certainly a switch for both companies.
Previously, Microsoft had used an IBM PowerPC processor, while Sony partnered with Toshiba and IBM on its own complicated Cell processor.
While the Xbox One will run a heavily modified eight-core AMD processor, PS4 will utilize a x86-64 "Jaguar" CPU.

AMD's Graphics Core Next

Both console makers are also relying on AMD to design their next graphics processors that will produce the next-generation visuals that differentiate console games from the emerging smartphone market.
The Xbox One marries its GPU to the CPU in a system-on-a-chip design, according to Wired, with Direct 11.1 support.
The single 40-nanometer SoC really contrasts with the two dedicated 90-nm chips found in the Xbox 360.
However, it only marginally contrasts with the PS4, which also combines its AMD CPU with the chip maker's GPU.
In the case of PS4, the graphics processor is described as semi-custom AMD Radeon that runs at 1.8 TFLOPS.

Developers are really going to appreciate PS4's 8GB GDDR5 RAM

Sony scores with 8GB GDDR5 RAM

One of the most impressive things about the PS4 specs has been its use of 8GB GDDR5 RAM.
Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One to have 8GB RAM as well, but it's DDR3 memory variety.
That may mean more to game developers in the long run as opposed to gamers themselves right now, but it's still an interesting choice for the Xbox One.

Which has the better controller?

The Xbox One controller vs the PS4 DualShock 4 controller is a debate that won't be won anytime soon, mostly because gamers' already have a locked-in preference.
The reason for this is that neither Sony nor Microsoft have radically changed their respective controllers over the years - they're more like evolutions 2000 and 2001.
The DualShock 4 is a little bigger in the next-generation thanks to its unique front-and-center touchpad. Sony stuck with the dual analog sticks down in front, but at least have a central divot recess for easier gripping.
Microsoft also didn't mess with success, only slightly modifying its controller in the jump to the Xbox One. It's 40 design innovations are subtle, including the tweaked D-Pad on the bottom-left of the game pad.

Xbox One Kinect vs PS4 Eye

While Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will appeal to "core" gamers with mature launch titles, Microsoft and Sony are charging forward with motion-sensing devices.
The Xbox One Kinect was unveiled along with the system during the May 21 announcement, when Microsoft refered to to the advanced camera as "human control for a human experience."
Expanding on that motto, the packed-in 1080p Kinect 2.0 will be able to process 2GB of data per second, analyzing more joints, the slight rotation of a wrist or shoulder and your heartbeat.
Less is known about the PlayStation 4 Eye, but Sony did state that its similarly shaped camera bar contains two two 1280×800px cameras.
The PS4 DualShock 4 controller will come into play with the PS4 Eye thanks to its multi-colored light bar. It will also be compatible with those PS4 Move motion controllers that have gone unused.

There’s a good news for game geeks who missed PC  and  Xbox games on their iOS and Android devices, as  Microsoft will soon offer them on the two popular mobile platforms. The company is to tie up with Japanese Smartphone game maker Klab for the purpose, reports Nikkei via Reuters.

Klab, through a licensing deal with Microsoft, is said to be working on the project to transcribe Xbox and Windows based games to work on mobile platforms Android and iOS. One of the first games to get a transformation is “Age of the Empires,” and it will be made available as a free-to-play game worldwide on Smartphones by the end of fiscal year 2013 and soon other titles to follow the route.

New fibre optic technology to boost internet bandwidth

In a breakthrough, scientists -- including one of Indian origin -- have devised a new fibre optic technology that promises to increase bandwidth dramatically, easing internet congestion and video streaming.

IPv6 Simplified

Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) has been around for a while now, but has started to make its presence felt in Internet space only recently.
Question is What does term IPv6 mean? and why it is the next big thing in the Internet?

  • IPv6 is the latest version of IP, it is the successor IPv4 and It has many more times address space than IPv4
  • IPv4 can hold only 4.3 billion addresses which are not enough for rapidly growing world population but IPv6 can hold up to 340 undecellion addresses because it uses 128-bit address.
  • Google's take on the transition from IPv4 to IPv6
  • IPv6 can create over 18 trillion addresses and with this number, currently every human being on earth can be assigned around 3000 dedicated IP's

Accorging to me IPv6 is essential for the Growth of internet, although transition has started but it will take time to completely replace IPv4 by IPv6

Bill Gates addressed students in a high school

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Learn the art of living...

I recently attended a beautiful workshop of 'ART OF LIVING'. It was a 7 day workshop and those 7 days were magical. I want to share some beautiful ideas that can really change the way you live ....

  • Opposite values are complementary, stay in Balance.
  • Don't be a FOOTBALL of others opinions.
  • NEVER LET YOUR IMPORTANT THINGS BECOME URGENT.
  • Don't find intentions in others people mistakes, It will only give you tension.
  • Life runs on commitment. (commitment provides you Strength)
  • Everything you resist will persist.
  •  OFS rule: Observe filter and surrender
(like if someone have said something to you can be good or bad, observe it, then try to filter it, if what is being said will hurt you rather than making you happy, surrender it)
  • Don't give advice until you are asked for.
  • Always live in present moment.
  • Happiness is an attitude.

All these points written above have very deep meanings, try to implement these in your life and see the MAGIC! .

Windows 8.1 update

Microsoft is giving people a peek into Windows 8.1, a free update that promises to address some of the gripes people have with the latest version of the company's flagship operating system.

Although the preview version of Windows 8.1 is meant for Microsoft's partners and other technology developers, anyone will be able to download it for free starting from Wednesday, exactly eight months since desktops, laptops and tablets with Windows 8 went on sale. The version of the Windows 8.1 update meant for the general public will come out later in the year, though a specific date hasn't been announced.

Many of the new features have been shown off already. A three-day Build conference, which starts on Wednesday in San Francisco, will give Microsoft developers a chance to learn more about the new system and try it out. It also will give the company a chance to explain some of the reasoning behind the update and sell developers on Microsoft's ambitions to regain relevance lost to Apple's iPad and various devices running Google's Android software.

There's also speculation that Microsoft could show off a new, smaller version of its Surface tablet computers. One of the new features in Windows 8.1 is the ability to work well on smaller-screen devices.

Windows 8, which was released last year, was meant to be Microsoft's answer to changing customer behaviors and the rise of tablet computers. The operating system emphasizes touch controls over the mouse and the keyboard, which had been the main way people have interacted with their personal computers since the 1980s.

But some people have been put off by the radical makeover.

Although Microsoft has said it has sold more than 100 million Windows 8 licenses so far, some analysts have blamed the lackluster response to the operating system for a steep drop in PC sales in the first three months of the year, the worst drop since tracking by outside research firms began in 1994.

Among the complaints: the lack of a Start button on the lower left corner of the screen. In previous versions of Windows, that button gave people quick access to programs, settings and other tasks. Microsoft replaced that with a tablet-style, full-screen start page, but that covered up whatever programs people were working on, and it had only favorite programs. Extra steps were needed to access less-used programs. Settings, a search box and other functions were hidden away in a menu that had to be pulled out from the right. How to do that changed depending on whether a mouse or touch was used.

And while Microsoft has encouraged people to use the new tablet-style layout, many programs--including Microsoft's latest Office software package--are designed for the older, desktop mode. People were forced into the tablet layout when they start up the machine and had to manually switch the desktop mode each time.

Windows 8.1 will allow people to start in the desktop mode automatically. In that mode, it is restoring a button that resembles the old Start button. Although the Start button will now take people back to the new tablet-style start screen, rather than the old Start menu, the re-introduction of the familiar button may make it easier for longtime Windows users to get accustomed to the changes.

Other new features of Windows 8.1 include more options to use multiple apps. People will get more options to determine how much of the screen each app takes while showing up to four different programs, rather than just two. The update will also offer more integrated search results, showing users previews of websites, apps and documents that are on the device, all at once.

Although Microsoft is addressing much of the criticisms with Windows, it is positioning the update as more than just a fix-up job. From its perspective, the tuneup underscores Microsoft's evolution into a more nimble company capable of moving quickly to respond to customer feedback while also rolling out more innovations for a myriad of Windows devices--smartphones, tablets or PCs.
